Your favourite entertainment is at your fingertips with the Xbox One Media Remote. You’re in control of Blu-ray movies, streaming video, apps, TV power and volume. Featuring backlit keys that light up automatically, and direct access to the OneGuide, this simple, powerful remote is designed to help you watch and switch instantly.

The Xbox One was billed as the ultimate entertainment centre. A hub for the whole family to consume gaming and media. What the Xbox One needed was a control solution that wouldn’t look out of place in the living room. So, instead of everyone in the family having to familiarise themselves with the Xbox One controller, Microsoft released the Xbox One Media Remote.

I was pleasantly surprised when I unpacked the unit. For the price tag, the unit is built very well. It has a rubberised body and feels very sturdy. The remote has a movement sensor which illuminates the keys whenever the remote is lifted, and the keys are easily identifiable.

The remote has all of the features that you would come to expect from a modern remote, as well as the start, display and Xbox home buttons.

The only problem that I found ( and this wouldn’t affect everyone) is that the controller has to be within line of sight of the Xbox One console. This is problematic for me as my console is hidden away.

I would recommend this product to any Xbox One owner. Sometimes a remote is just a better option than a controller.
